"Inspiration words did the trick "

    C.H.U.R.C 2 v 1 ABC
    (G,K,M or something like that!)

After a few inspirational words in the changing room by Matt our prayer leader, it seemed to have done the trick as CHURC came out the blocks flying making a couple of chances in the first couple of minutes. Then a long ball, knock on by Logey, to Rob, who passed it inside to Tom and a solid left foot drive into the botom corner gave us a deserved lead. We should have had a couple more, but bad finishing by the normally reliable Tom kept the game tight. This did not last too long, as the Alphabet team, started to dominate the midfield and made a selection of chances before drawing level, with a good strike, albeit, unchallenged. Our defence stood firm and kept them at bay until around the 30th minute, we got a free kick about 25 yards out, after a brief chat, Logan decided to hit a stunning curling strike into the top of the net - 2v1 CHURC.

Half time came and heaps of praise was awarded to Colin, as he did have a busy half, however, stood up to it admirably and deseved the plaudits.

In the second half, it was a similar affair with chances at both ends, however good saves by both keepers and bad finishing kept the scores the same. A few tactical changes were made by "the gaffer" but the game stayed the same and in the end an excellent victory by CHURC to get us of the mark.

Overall, a deserved victory and good overall team performance by all and that includes all squad players, I am sure everyone understands how tight the game was that it made it hard to make additional changes.

Below are the match reports from the League games of the 2008/2009 season.

" Poor display to end the season "

    St Mary's 2 v 1 Canford Heath URC

Canford cannot help but be bitterly dissapointed as they went down 2 - 1. Argueably, this was their worst 90 minutes all season. Looking forward to a friendly at AFC Bourenmouth on May 6th to hopefully sign out of the season with a good performance.

    " Frustrating Night "

    Citygate 2 v 1 Canford Heath URC

Our first midweek game of the season proved to be frustrating. It was all square up until injury time, to which Citygate scored a late goal. A good and entertaining game, but a poor result.

Team: Mark M (Goal), Sean H (Richie - 75), Chippy, Matthew, Colin, James, Rob, Ed, Scott (Lee - 55), John (Gareth - 46), Adam.

     " Dismal Defeat "

    Canford Heath URC 1 v 3 Holtwood

After last week's tremendous result, Canford Heath URC came into this game against Holtwood with confidence. Unfortunately due to players being unavailable, Canford Heath URC were unable to send out the same side. These changes unsettled the flow and Canford started poorly, which continued through the first half. A long range speculative effort by a Holtwood defender gave the away team the lead, as Mark (David James) Maidment mis-judged the flight of the ball and it flew into the net. Canford Heath URC were holding on with very few efforts at the away teams goal, until the final minute when a very soft second goal was given to Holtwood. Two down at the break but still in the game.

The half time team talk was to increase our tempo, enjoyment and commitment to the game. Changes were made with John coming off and being replaced by new youth player Rob, and Martin going back into defence with Gareth and releasing Matt into the midfield. This had a desired effect and chances were made by Canford Heath URC. A corner finally gave the home side a goal, which luckily came through the defence and off the shoulder of Logan, over the defence on the line and Canford Heath URC were back in the game. The home side pressed for an equaliser, however, poor finishing ensured that no more goals were forthcoming and the away side finally made it 3 v 1 and this is how the game ended. A very disappointing result after the previous weeks performance.

" Canford smash the plate finalists! "

    Canford Heath URC 4 v 0 Citygate

An excellent managerial decision before the match, to kick against the ferocious wind paid off. Canford withstood this gale force wind with excellent teamwork. Not many chances were created by the opposition who have reached the Plate final, which is a smashing achievement. To be fair, Canford URC had the best chances in the first half when Tom Maidment should have put the ball in the back of the net with two good chances. Excellent play throughtout this half with the ball being played on the ground and through the midfield and under the wind. Just before half time, Adam saw a stunning shot just pass the far post, and Canford went in all square and feeling good for the second half.

The half time team talk was to ensure we do not take the game for granted and concentrate for the first few minutes of the second half. From the kick off a speculative effort by Logan was saved by the keeper, however from his kick we let the opposition through and an excellent save by Mark kept us in the game. After that Canford took over, and a golden 10 minutes when firstly Tom (Torres) Maidment placed his shot into the bottom corner, followed by Logan (Stevie G) Robertson calmly slotting the second after a defensive error, and shortly after, Matthew (Forest Gump) Ashton took advantage of more poor defending to score and put the game out of reach. Dave made way for Coln at full back and as the game was under control, Mark (Benitez) Maidment decided to rest his flair players for our European campaign, to which Logan and Tom were replaced by Gareth and John. The game slumped after that and Canford continued to control with efforts by Rob, Ed, James, chippy and Martin, but later Martin Woolley made it four with an excellent effort.

A Fantastic display especially in the first half means that Canford start to move up the table and with two games in hand look good for a fantastic end to the season. The atmosphere is excellent and teamwork outstanding, keep up the effort chaps. Another home game next week V Holtwood. If I were to score players for performance, I think we would have given everyone a nine out of ten. (sorry, their is always room for improvement)

Boscombe Airs 4 - 1 Canford Heath URC FC

A tough away game against an organised team albeit who argue alot amongs themsleves, but the have experience. Boscombe curently third in the league. After our great display the previous week, against the league winners, confidence was high and Mark decided to reward those players by keeping the same starting eleven, however, after a reasonable 15 to 20 minutes, things started to go aganist us. Boscombe scored a scrappy goal midway through the half and we held on until half time without creating too many chances ourselves.

A change was made a half time, with Martin (the sweeper) replacing young Shaun, who has performed very well in recent weeks and was rewarded with a well earned rest. The second half started much the same, scrappy by Canford, however we never gave up.

Boscombe again scored another two scrappy goals before we hit the crossbar through a fierce strike by Rob. We drew one back with 10 minutes to go, after a fantastic run down the left by Matthew (Forrest Gump), who crossed to find Logan at the far post who drilled a low volley goalwards, which was assisted into the net by the keeper. Not long after that Boscombe scored their fourth with only minutes to go.

The main thing to bear in mind is that we are enjoing our football whatever the result and it is good to see many faces return to increase our squad. At home next week to our fortress, so hopefully all thre points.
